We particularly enjoyed the tenderloving care we received from your entire staff. Experiencing firsthand the amazing lifestyle in the villages is a memory we'll keep always. We will certainly tell all our friends and show them all those fantastic pictures. William & Debbie Sanders, Freemont California, USA | "Our tour to the beaches and hills with Bangladesh Ecotours was enjoyable, easygoing, hassle-free and downright FUN! We couldn't have been looked after better - and we felt it. Even more than all the fantastic places we visited, it was the care and attention to every detail that we appreciated the most." Steve & Sally Fuchs, George & Wendy Thrust Brighton, UK | Please give our most heartfelt thanks to all the people at 'Yongee Para', we really had a great time there. Their hospitality was unbelievable (as was the big midnight dance). We'll not soon forget the great experience we had during our week with you -- we've got so many wonderful pictures to help us remember... Your care and humor made even the few potholes on the road enjoyable. Joane Lister, Sue Kelly, Diane Armstrong and Bobby, Boca Ratan, Florida, USA | "My days and nights with the Mru remain with me, even back in the luxury of my so-called 'first world' home. What I learned and observed there was so powerful and most beneficial. My cassette of Mru flute playing is nostalgic and haunting and a gentle reminder that I should begin to return. Thank you so much for introducing us to Mru culture and for the whole Chittagong Hill Tracts experience." Mitch Loch, Screenwriter Los Angeles, California, USA | Your service was excellent... every detail was taken care of... our driver was wonderful... our tour leader was 'The Best', Didar is so thoughtful & caring...I loved the country experience - going to people's homes - meeting people - seeing how they lived. You made all the experiences so easy. Thanks you so much for our wonderful stay. This experience in your country I will always cherish. Thanks, Deni Denise Perkins Santa Rosa, California, USA | Well, we've finally made it back home. It'll take us a while to settle back into the 'old humdrum' existence after our fantastic (eco) holiday in Bandarban and Cox's Bazar. We've certainly the most interesting millennium stories on the block...with slides galore to prove it really happened. The local guides were so very kind and helpful, we couldn't believe that we'd never met them before. Thanks millions for the experience. May, Sue, Diane and Joanne Vancouver, BC, Canada | | "We never thought Bangladesh would be like this... After all the hassles in India and Nepal, this was the best part of our entire Asian holiday! Entirely problem-free and totally enjoyable. And what a great way to end a trip, up in the hilltracts and on the beach. You must thank Monindra, Didar, Rengyu and all the village folks who made us feel right at home (but better). We all had a real great time. The Mru recordings we made came out just perfect and put us back into that same mood, wish we had done more recording -- certainly next time!" Jane/Kato and the rest of the gang... Hong Kong | What brilliant vision - I felt so privileged to live with the Mru and Marma for those two wonderful weeks. I was able to complete more of my research work at those villages than I did in two months previously. It was totally refreshing, inspiring and so full of vitality. Sure hope you can keep it all going - for the benefit of the Mru and especially for all your future guests, its definitely the new millennium - now. Peter Simpson Amsterdam, Holland | | It took us a wonderful day or so to adjust to the pure simplicity and natural beauty, what a wonderful climb up that gorge! The village accepted us as just another family -- quite extraordinary -- and very ego-boosting. The 'festivities' of our farewell party on the last night completely amazed us, we haven't had that much fun (or home-brew) for ages. Thanks so much for the opportunity to experience and enjoy our private eco adventure. Marylene Scott & Michael Hall Rochester, NY, USA | A few tips from the General Secretary of the Finnish Aeronautical Association - ...You'll not see any other tourists for days, and certainly no big groups from Japan. The 5-star hotels sell beer, but otherwise its difficult to find, ask the rickshaw wallahs. ...The Pink Palace (Ahsan Manzil) in Dhaka is small, but one of the best and most beautiful museums I've ever visited. ...Visit the countryside and avoid the traffic and bad air in the big cities of Dhaka and Chittagong and you'll enjoy your stay a lot. The southeastern hill tribe area is an absolute must, you'll meet great people there. ...You may think Bangladesh must be similar to India or Myanmar (Burma), but its not... visit and see. Prearrange as much as possible, local help is very important to get things to go just like you wish. We did it with Didar, Rengyu and Co. of Bangladesh Ecotours, you can too. Go now, before the tourists! Kai Monkkonen Kaitsu, Finland |
| Recently plucked from the Thorn Tree Re: TRIP TO BANGLADESH by KiwiPacker ---------------------------------------------------- The hilltract area of Bangladesh has been unrestricted for over two years, though you still must inform the 'local authorities', meaning the SP of Police and the DC (District Commissioner) or some such. You've no worries about running into other tourists, and its a great place. The only part of that region accessible, the Burmese and Indian equivalents being closed. Try www.bangladeshecotours.com, who can arrange things and take you for homestays among some of the most amazing indigenous people on the globe, The Mru. Re: Bangladesh vs. Nepal by JungleBunny ---------------------------------------------------- Accuse me of being simpleminded, but found Bangladesh to be quite a wonderful country, despite (and maybe because of) all the bad press and comments. The people are the most welcoming toward guest than anywhere else in the subcontinent. Ramjan (Ramadan) is not much of a problem, the cafes just have curtains over the doors. Its a fabulous time to visit the hilltract areas in the southeast. A must! No fasting there, and no crowds. Probably the last place in Asia that is still without tourists knocking into one another. Please go and report back on all the great things and people you meet. Re: bangladesh experiences ---------------------------------------------------- You just must check out the hilltracts in the southeast, it was the singlemost wonderful experience of all my south asian travels. The hilly people are so very kind and hospitable. They are very open minded and the atmosphere is so much more free and simple than in the lowlands of the country. Home-brew in most homes, tribal culture and handicrafts (there are 14 indigenous tribes in Bandarban district). Highly recommended. The sundarban mangrove forest in the southwest is also a must, but you'll need at least 3/4 days to get deep enough to see much. I don't know why Bangladesh gets all that negative press, perhaps its better that way -- a treasure grove for the open-minded. | Unsolicited flattery from Ecotour Experts The Bangladesh Ecotours program has raised the parameters and conception of ecotourism to a fresh and pure form, creating a naturally regenerative milieu whereby the guests, hosts and environment benefit equally. - Ted Brown ASIAN TRAVELS MAGAZINE Your Bangladesh Ecotours operation is truly unique, I regard it as probably the most interesting of all our worldwide EarthFoot listings. - Jim Conrad EARTHFOOT.ORG These tours provide an ideal balance of discovery and leisure, tranquillity and adventure - definitely not endurance tests - simply a most appropriate and enjoyable way to explore the region. - John Michaud TRAVEL-WISE All the clients we have booked with Bangladesh Ecotours for this sector have had nothing but praise for both the areas visited and the personal care given. - Jill Ross ASIA ADVENTURE | | "It was the empathetic and insightful guidance which you provided that allowed me the deepest communion into the remote world of these wonderful, gentle people. As I now fondly gaze at my pictures of the all those individuals and characters we encountered and lived with, I long to return." -- Alex Georgiadis, Warsaw, Poland -- | | | | | | | | | BANGLADESH ECOTOURS 263 Jubilee Road, Tinpol, Chittagong, Bangladesh Phones: 0189-318345; 0171-264827; 031-623451 Email: info@bangladeshecotours.com Published: 25 June, 1997 - Updated: 01 November, 2004 Webmaster: Shahjahan Siraj | | |
